Between the 27th and 30th of June this year, Canoe Lake Leisure and the Lawn Tennis Association will be hosting the inaugural Aegon Southsea Trophy tournament on Southsea's revitilised Canoe Lake grass courts. Open for free to the public, this pre-Wimbeldon event gives locals and tennis fanatics alike the chance to watch world class female players in a picturesque location in one of the South's most bustling of cities, located a short walk from both the town centre, and the beach promenade. A great day out for the family, and a must-see for fans of the sport!
About Canoe Lake Leisure:
"Canoe Lake Leisure was formed in 2013 to safeguard the future of the Canoe Lake grass tennis courts when funding cuts resulted in an uncertain future. Along with managing and improving both the grass courts and the surrounding site, we have also built 4 top-specification artificial grass courts for all year-round play, resurfaced 2 hard courts, a basketball court and added a regulation size netball court.
We have refurbished a former ladies bowls pavilion into the thriving Greens Cafe, which brings locally sourced and healthy options to the people of Southsea. A modern and unique pavilion overlooking the grass courts completes this philanthropic project. We are very proud to be able to host the Aegon Southsea Trophy tournament at our newest community facility."
The 2017 Aegon Southsea Trophy is an ITF Pro-Circuit women’s $100K event, and will act as a good ‘warm-up’ for many of the World’s top players before moving onto The Championships, Wimbledon, the following week. The Main Draw Singles Event starts on Tuesday 27 June and, weather permitting, culminates with the Finals on Friday 30 June.
Entry is free of charge of so tickets are not required.
