Amanda Miller: STOTT Pilates at SWEAT Southsea
About Amanda: "I have been an avid sports enthusiast since I was a child - growing up with three older and competitive big brothers will do that to you! I played competitive provincial soccer in Canada until an ankle injury took me out of the game. Through my Physiotherapy I found Pilates and it helped me to recover. I continued to play but did not practice my Pilates and ended up with a knee injury, which again led me back to Pilates. Again, I recovered but this time I ditched the soccer cleats and began a career in philanthropy, taking an undergraduate and then a Masters in Brighton, which brought me to the UK!
After many years of stressful and intense jobs I once again found myself suffering from injuries and guess what it led me to....Pilates! They say the third time's the charm. So I decided it was time to get a clue and stick with this Pilates thing. I studied intensely on my own helping to repair many of the issues I was experiencing. I then began working with an incredible instructor in London. After seeing the power that Pilates can have on the body and mind first-hand I decided to ditch the rat race of London to become a Pilates instructor.
I trained with STOTT Pilates at their headquarters in my hometown of Toronto, Canada. I chose STOTT Pilates not simply because of its outstanding international reputation but because, to me, this method combines the best of classical Pilates and the new medical and anatomical discoveries that have been made since Joseph Pilates created it. All STOTT Pilates exercises are underpinned by five basics principles which are based on modern principles of exercise science and rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and most effective exercise methods available. This method of Pilates uses very targeted exercises to create a holistic workout, that requires the full attention of body and mind.
I am keen to work with people to help with their athletic conditioning, injury rehabilitation and improve their mind body connection to create a more holistic view of physical training and enjoying life."

What is STOTT Pilates?
STOTT PILATES is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates.
This form of Pilates, as taught by Amanda Miller incorporates modern exercise principles, and applies proven and accepted practices in biomechanics, rehabilitation and athletic performance enhancement. After realising the benefits of the concepts of the original Pilates method, and in collaboration with a team of physical therapists, physiotherapists, sports medicine and exercise professionals, the Merrithews dissected and re-connected this unique form of exercise into a comprehensive, systematic, contemporary approach to the original teachings.
STOTT PILATES exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and rebalance the muscles around the joints. This involves placing more emphasis on pelvic and scapular stabilization, and integration of all the parts of the body into one. As well, preparatory exercises and modifications allow the technique to be appropriate for many different body types and abilities, making it applicable to sport-specific training and everyday life.
